Painfully Distant
You live so far and as we
Come close, you drift away further.
The you that I knew and expected to meet
Is long gone from you now.
The you that I, in my image, perfected,
Is blurry in my view now.
Yet I now yearn to meet your
New self that you have adopted.
I yearn for a soft touch that makes
Our distant worlds meet once again,
Or a gaze between each other’s eyelids
That tells me that we’re still friends.
